The Aussie dollar was very much in focus in this session with both an RBA statement overnight and also the ongoing issues in Chile. As a proxy currency for risk and closely associated with commodities the currency is windblown by commodity prices, supply and demand issues, and of course fundamentals from China. As Chile is the largest exporter of copper and with mines closed due to strikes this should help the currency. In addition, there is talk of the central bank sticking to the timetable for tapering, so plenty of reasons to watch the Aussie dollar over the next few weeks.
